Edinburgh: W. & R. Chambers,, 1886. A revised edition of Charles Knight's "Cabinet Shakespeare", first published between 1843 and 1844. Knight (1791-1873) produced many editions of Shakespeare as well as a biography. The Cabinet edition, designed to be a compact set of Shakespeare complete works, also includes a short biographical section and a final volume dedicated to the history of Shakespearean criticism. Twelve volumes, duodecimo. Original red cloth, spines lettered and decorated in gilt, double panel in blind to boards, foliate patterned endpapers. Engraved title pages, wood-engraved half-title to each play, head- and tailpieces. Gilt and cloth bright, spine ends slightly bumped, corners a little rubbed, very faint foxing to edges, light browning to free endpapers. An attractive set.
