London: Thornton Butterworth. March 1929. First UK edition, first printing. First UK edition, first printing. Signed by Winston Churchill. Publisher's original dark blue cloth with titles in blind to the lower front board, titles in gilt to the spine. Illustrated with eight maps, four are folding, two of which are coloured. A very good copy, the binding firm with a bumping and minor fraying to the spine tips, the cloth and gilt bright and fresh. The contents, somewhat spotted to the prelims and text block edge are otherwise clean throughout. All of the maps are present and in fine condition. Inscribed by the author in black ink on the second blank endpaper "Inscribed by / Winston S. Churchill / June 21. 1929". The fifth and penultimate volume of Churchill's monumental history of the First World War, of which 7500 copies of the first printing were published on 7 March 1929.
