About This Item
Lewiston, ME / Boston: Bradford Peck, 1900. Troubled small businessman, drugged to help him sleep, awakens from a coma 25 years in his future to find a utopian society based on cooperative business principles & the teachings of Jesus; advertising, competition, & factionalism having been eliminated. Rev. Lund points out in his preface that, before they fell, most of the world's great empires had concentrated most of their wealth into the hands of very few. Peck, the author, ran a successful department store in Lewiston ("the largest...in New England, outside of Boston") and in an afternote, solicits funds to found the key institution of the book, promising a signed 'edition de luxe' of the book to contributors. Hardcover in jacket, as pictured. Light wear to book; jacket shows minor edgewear, a short tear to rear panel, creases at head of spine, tiny chips. Text clean; xv, [3], [312] pages; 16 b/w illustrations - mostly of buildings & floorplans - as called for, 2 folding. . First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good. Illus. by Harry C. Wilkinson.
