Red cloth covered boards with gold lettering in black rectangle & decorative borderline devices along spine. Tightly bound. Deckled fore-edge. Gilt stained textblock top edge. 'This edition is limited to one thousand numbered and signed copies.' #62/1000. Signed by Maugham on limitation page. [367 pages] In stiff cardstock slipcase covered in black paper with large [4 & 1/2' x 6'] title plate affixed to one side of case. Plate printed in red & white & black. Moderate wear to slipcase. Title plate is rubbed with light scratches and one tiny pock mark like paper scar.

Synopsis

W. Somerset Maugham was one of the twentieth century's most popular novelists, as well as a celebrated playwright, critic, and short story writer. He was born in Paris but grew up in England and served as secret agent for the British during World War I. He wrote many novels, including the classics Of Human Bondage , The Razor's Edge , Cakes and Ale , Christmas Holiday , Moon and Sixpence , Theatre , and Up at the Villa .
