[a little wear at spine ends, one-time owner's stamp on ffep and handwritten name on title page; jacket shows moderate surface wear, one tiny tear at top rear hinge, slight color-shift along left edge of front panel]. (color photographs, color renderings) Made possible by the author's tireless pursuit and acquisition of Kodachrome slides shot during World War II, this is an illustrated survey of wartime aircraft (mostly American) like no other: a depiction in full color of a subject and an era that most people alive today know only from black-and-white photographs and newsreel footage. According to the jacket blurb, the superior technical qualities of the Kodachrome film in use at the time render these images "so strikingly clear and free of distortion some find it hard to believe the original slides have not been computer enhanced or colorized," but "the author and the publisher guarantee they have not tampered with the images in any way. The reader is looking straight into the past as it was." Contains six fold-out pages, some containing color illustrations by Bob Boyd, others additional color photos. .
