Boston, MA: Little, Brown, and Company. Very Good. 1918. 2nd Printing. Hardcover. B&W Photographs; This book is in Very Good condition and is lacking a dust jacket. The book and its contents are in generally clean, bright condition. The spine of the book has a bit of a slant. There is some light bumping and rubbing to the spine ends and corners of the book covers. The covers have generalized ground-in dirt. The text pages are clean and bright. There is a previous owner's inked name on the front endpaper and a ink stamped name on the front pastedown page. The rear cover has an inked date. The rear inner hinge has cracked and been repaired. "In 1916, Robert Derby Holmes, from Boston, Massachusetts, traveled to England on a horse boat, tending to a detachmen of stallions for the British Army. When Holmes reache England, he immediately went to the Trafalgar Square recruiting office and joined the army. He rose to the rank of Corporal and served in the 22nd London Battalion before being wounded and sent to a British hospital." ( Characters from the Diamond by Ronald T. Waldo) .
