First Edition. 8vo illus mustard cloth gilt spine lettering, prev owner name, slight scuffing to cover, slight spine fading. ow VG/ndj: 312pp, 99 bw photos that he took himself. Geil, an American evangelist, explorer, lecturer and photographer travelled in 1902 frpm Shanghai up the Yangtze River thru the Gorges to Burma, investigating the state of missionaries soon after the Boxer rebellion of 1900. He said to have been the first American to have travelled the whole length of the Great Wall. He authored several travel books illus by his numerous photos such as A Yankee in Pigmyland 1905, The Great Wall of China 1909, etc.
