About This Item
Kuala Lumpur: Malay Mail,, 1959. First edition, first printing, and uncommon in commerce compared to later year books. This annual, complete with attractive period adverts, includes not only important political and economic information, but also sections on topics such as sport, fauna, and religion. Provenance: from the library of the Office of the High Commissioner for the Federation of Malaya, London, with its ownership and May 1959 date stamp on the front cover, together with a contemporary notation: "2nd Secretary (Admin.)". Loosely inserted is a copy of the War Office's Current Affairs Discussion Brief, number 76, February 1964, on the formation of Malaysia and Britain's commitments to the new country. Octavo. Original illustrated card wrappers, gatherings wire-stitched and glued into wrappers as issued, front cover lettered in black. Illustrations and advertisements in text. Loss at head of first leaf consistent with an ownership signature being excised, printed area only slightly affected. Wrappers lightly creased and soiled, even toning internally. A very good copy.
