About This Item

Published for the British Council by Longmans, Green & Co., London, edition, 1950. Printed wrappers, 8vo,. 76 pp, plates. From the introductory note: "The second annual issue of this British Council publication covers twelve months of the drama in Britain, from 1 June 1949 to 31 May 1950. Dame Sybil Thomdike contributes a personal appreciation of the nonagenarian Bernard Shaw, whose comedy Buoyant Billions was staged during the year; A. V. Cookman, dramatic critic of The Times, discusses the Verse Play; and, as before, several of the other leading dramatic critics of London survey aspects of the year. Such authorities as Tyrone Guthrie and Tames Laver write on Shakespearean production and on stage design. Appendices list the plays and publications of the period. The book is again edited by J. C. Trewin, dramatic critic and author of several works on the theatre, and designed by Lionel Carter, who conducts The Masque, of which he is the founder. Near Very Good.
