Books Inc / William Morrow, 1944. Very Good. First Edition, small octavo hardcover in jacket. Inscribed by the author in ink on the first page: "To a real 'dyed-in-the-wool' mystery story fan - my sister. With much love. HW Roden / Xmas 1943." First of the 4 "Sid Ames, P.I." novels, with eerie, desolate jacket art and profile author photo on the rear jacket panel. Roden's pulp work is scant, but is credited with an entry in "The American Magazine" (1947). Antigambling and corruption themes. Very Good in Very Good jacket; slight lean, toning, tape ghost to front board, brief ink to top edges, and jacket rubbed and toned, with several small chips and tears, and 2 tape repairs on the verso.
