(price-clipped) [moderate shelfwear to bottom edge, slight fraying at top of spine, dust-soiling to top edge, some discoloration to endpapers, foxing/spotting on a few pages; jacket browned at spine, very slight paper loss at bottom corners]. Satirical comic novel about a middle-aged man whose wife patiently endures his various platonic infatuations; he's described in the jacket blurb as "a virtuous philanderer who desired women -- but only at a distance so that he might adore and idealize them." The author was a newspaper and magazine writer (and sometime book critic) .
