Various Photographers , 1930. A group of 32 photographs, 30 b&w and 2 color, ranging in size from 4" x 6" to 7" x 9 1/2", 10 circa 1930's, the rest 1957-1997, 8 SIGNED ( signees to be determined). Credited photographers are: Ginger Gamage, Forbes, Jay Dee (Ft. Worth, TX), V. Sladon, (NYC), and John Lindquist. Some of the photos have writing verso identifying the subjects, including one of Svetlova with Claudio Arrau and Mantovani. Several appear to be other noted people in the world of dance. And the 1930's photos, several of which are signed, appear to be friends of Svetlovas. Marina Svetlova ( 1923-2009) had a carrer in ballet that began as a child in 1931 and carried into the 1960's. She was a soloist with the Original Ballet Russe and a ballerina with the Metropolitan Opera Ballet. In 1969 she became a Professor of Ballet and chairwoman of the ballet department at Indiana University in Bloomington until 1992, gaining a reputation as a major educator in dance. A…

Description:
Routledge, 1990. 8vo size trade paperback; 390 pages including index From back: "This is a unique study, continuing the work of Merleau-Ponty and Heidegger, and using the techniques of phenomenology against the prevailing nihilism of our culture. It expands our understanding of the human potential for spiritual self-realization by interpreting it as the developing of a bodily-felt awareness informing our gestures and movements. The author argues that a psychological focus on our experiences of well-being and pathology as embodied beings contribute significantly to a historically relevant critique of idealogy. It also provides an essential touchstone in experience for a fruitful individual and collective response to the dangers of nihilism." Edgewear, moderate wear to covers with sunned spine; marginalia, underlining and very light highlighting on least 58 pages prior to page 107; two previously folded page corners, some stray ink marks on outside pages.
