Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1955. Book. Good. Hardcover. First American Edition. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. xv, [3], 298 pages. Black and white photographic plates. First published in German in 1953 as Adolf Hitler, Mein Jugendfreund. "If Kubizek is a reliable witness - and Mr. Trevor-Roper vouches for him in a brilliantly incisive introduction - he has written the most important book on Hitler since Mein Kampf. Not only does he tell us many facts which were previously unknown: far more important, he describes the only friendship which Hitler ever formed. It was the break with Kubizek which sealed Hitler's fate and that of the western world. Deprived of this friendship, he would reshape society so that twenty-five years later millions of 'Kubizeks' would hang on his words and follow him to destruction." - R.H. S. Crossman. "Concentrates on the author's personal contacts with Hitler from their first meeting in 1904 to their last in 1940. [Offers] many insights into the character and personality of Hitler not available elsewhere." - Paul Madden. Moderate wear to book which remains square. Binding intact. Prior owner's name clipped from top of front free endpaper. Name stamped on page 100. Dust jacket in very poor condition but now preserved in archival-grade Brodart. A worthy copy of this illuminating memoir. Madden p.104, Kehr & Langmaid 638, Stachura p.230, Rees G-932, Laska 259..
