Lean to spine, heel of spine and top corners bumped. Else, clean and bright. In the original dust jacket: edgewear, gentle creasing to top edges. A pleasing copy of this charming edition of Ashford's comic mistress-piece, written when she was only nine years old. Very good/ very good. In her 'Illustrator's note,' the prize-winning cartoonist draws attention to her affinity with Ethel (via "ruge"): "As a child, I was fascinated by rouge. My grandmother had a pot, and sometimes she let me and my brothers and sister put it on. It was very agreeable to lounge about the house with a good dob on each cheek..."
