About This Item
London: Joseph Smith, 1843.. 16mo. (ii), vi, (3)-378 pp, though evidently complete. Publisher's brown ribbed cloth, gilt to the spine, blindstamped decoration to the boards with a gilt vignette to the upper side, the stylised contemporary ownership inscription of one Mary Poyser to the verso of the front free endpaper. Frontispiece portrait of Queen Victoria. Some light wear, very good. A generic guide instructing women how to be good wives and mothers. There are very similarly titled works attributed to different authors prior to this, but this appears to be the second edition of Shailer's work. Copac lists the first edition of 1841 and the following edition of 1845 plus later reprints by Milner and Sowerby of Halifax, but no other copies of this edition have been traced.
