About This Item
London: Hodder and Stoughton. Good in Poor dust jacket. 1924. Hardcover. 317 p. 18.5 cm. Sound and square binding in red, cloth-covered boards. Corners bumped and showing some wear. Small tear to the spine. Spine head faded, less so along spine and at the tail. Text block edges and endpapers have foxing. Markered out and erased? ownership information on the front free endpaper. Inside pages have occasional soil but are generally clean and unmarked. The page paper has some toning. Dustjacket is split into two and has been rejoined with archival document repair tape. Long tear on rear panel also repaired with same tape. Front flap is reinforced on the back side with masking tape. Paper loss to the corners and spine ends, affecting the title. Both panels and spine are darkened. A book intended for boys, to explain how their bodies are made and work. Written by medical missionary Dr. Wilfred T. Grenfell, who spent years working in Labrador in the late 19th and early 20th century. He apparently wrote this book when his own sons were at the age of asking many questions. The book is illustrated with simple, humourous drawings by the doctor. .
