Red beveled decorative cloth ruled in gilt, gilt and black lettering on front cover, gilt lettering on spine, 8vo, vii, 480 pp., black end-papers, TEG. Three pages of ads at the front of book and 14 pages of full-page ads at rear. Frontis portrait of the author, numerous drawings within text, two fold-out color maps in very nice condition. Mathers (1850-1924) was a British journalist who moved to Cape Town in 1878 and traveled extensively through the gold fields of South Africa. Private owner's label on ffep, no other marks in book, binding tight. Spine lettering somewhat sunned, but still clear. A handsome copy of this title. Book condition VG.
