Six parts in one volume. 4to. Quarter black clot over black textured boards. iv, 204; iv, 48; 8; 20; 8; 4 pages., 44 folding engraved plates. First edition. Rare German builder's periodical with ony four copies recorded on OCLC in American libraries - Columbia University, Case Western Reserve, New York Publ Library, and Canadian Center for Architecture. First edition, thus, of this rare journal for architects, carpenters, masons, bricklayers, and other build tradesman issued after the first year the famed Holzminden Building Trade Sch began offering courses and training year-round. The Technical College was founded initially in 1831 as a series of Winter courses by Haarmann (1798-186 in order to raise the quality of construction workers, and familiarize them w rapidly evolving industrial revolution building materials science, building design theories, new architectural styles incorporating brick, and well as mo rigorous training in mathematics and drafting. The articles here encompass construction techniques, boiler manufacturing, bricklaying, timber framing, a an architectural style heavily influenced by Conrad Hase's Hannoverian style which favored purer, mediaeval forms touted by many of the instructors at the Holzminden Building Trade School. This volume also includes original article and works by the students from that first year, a directory of all the studen names, as well as projects exhibited at the end of Winter lessons in 1861-186 This copy is from the libraries of Hugo Schwitenberg, a German-American build materials merchant who emigrated to the U.S. in 1865, and his son Max F. Schwichtenberg, a Portland, Oregon druggist, carpenter, painter, and later working for the railroad maintenance shop folowing World War I, with ownershi markings on endpapers. Woodcut illustration on title page; with 44 large fold engraved plates, 100's of text woodcut engravings and diagrams, tables, chart edgewear, rubbing, wear to corners of binding, occasional interior toning, so browing to a few plates, minor closed tears, and a couple minor tears to a fe of the large fold.
