1st Edition, 1942. Tissue guarded frontispiece + internal illustrated plates. English language (with scattered quotes in Japanese). Very Good condition, with no inscriptions. In Fair later printing dustwrapper, which is largely complete, but has extensive tears to the spine. Tipped onto the rear free endpaper is a printed bookseller's label describing the book. Loosely inserted is a folded publisher's advertising sheet.
Blyth was interned in a Japanese camp when this book was published. His dedication to zen influenced many writers, including Lawrence Durrell, Aldous Huxley, J.D. Salinger, and many more.
