The pamphlet is more famous for the stridency of the polemic than it is for the arguments presented. Even more interesting is the fact that this is the first writing published by the young Wilamowitz (1848-1931), who subsequently went on to become the foremost classical scholar of his generation, commanding the respect and admiration of the entire European community of philologists.It is unknown how many copies of this pamphlet were printed, but they were likely very few. As Wilamowitz’ biographer, William M. Calder III, admits: “I do not know nor do I think that there is any possibility of learning how many copies of ‘Zukunfsphilologie” were published. Minor edge wear to wrappers and a name stamped to upper right corner of title page.
