At the beginning of the book and at the rear of the book there are numerous advertisements for billiards related paraphernalia – please see photograph. Black and white photographic frontispiece, of John Roberts. The text is illustrated with black-and-white illustrations and the very occasional black and white photograph. Green coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured embossed illustration and titles to the top left-hand corner of the front panel and to the back strip. Black coloured advertisement embossed to the rear panel. A book on billiards by 19th century English exponent and champion, – John Roberts, whose treatise on the sport is between pages 43 and 176 – with other sections of the book written by other experts in their fields. The book is showing some age and wear. Softening and rubbing to the back strip edges with bumping and rubbing of the book corners – the underlying board can be seen to the lower book corners. Insect damage and flecking can be seen to the book panels with a few other marks also present. Browning and foxing of the text block edges. Age toning and foxing of the pages with the foxing being most noticeable at the beginning and at the end of the book. Offset tanning to the end pages and the front hinge has cracked with the underlying webbing just visible. The black and white photographic frontispiece is somewhat shaky but is still attached at the top edge. Second Edition. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
