The conference was held at Belleville, Illinois, close to St. Louis, Missouri where the pamphlet was printed. This copy with the presentation inscription of Illinois Conference meeting participant, Education Committee chairman Erastus Wentworth (1813-1886), then president of Methodist-affiliated McKendree College. Wentworth subsequently became a missionary in Foochow, China and was editor of the Methodist monthly The Ladies' Repository.
