Natchez, Miss.: Printed at the Daily Courier Book and Job Office, 1854. Original printed title wrappers, 12 pp. "Harmony Lodge No. 1" written in a contemporary hand at the top margin of the front wrapper. Disbound, with foxing and light wear. Good+.
"This Lodge shall be known and designated by the name of HARMONY LODGE, NO. 1," located in the City of Natchez. W.P. Mellen is listed as Grand Secretary; his office is in Natchez.
In an Order issued by Admiral David Porter in March 1864, Mellen was one of a group of "rebels, engaged as agents for the Confederate Government, employed for the purpose of furthering the view of said Government in destroying Union vessels by torpedoes and other inventions. All officers belonging to army and navy are requested to arrest them wherever found" [Ohio State U. Dept of History, Serial 064 Page 0480 LOUISIANA AND THE TRANS-MISSISSIPPI. Chapter XLVI]..
