Shah as a boy. With 20 additional photographs taken by the author. Large fold-out map at rear. Index. Bound in blue cloth with elaborate cover titles, spine with lettering and floral design in gilt. Minor soiling to front cover. Bookplate on front pastedown. Withal, a sturdy, presentable copy. "A description of life in Persia as observed by the author during two visits extending over a period of about three years in the last decade of the 19th and first decade of the 20th centuries. The book includes chapters on religion, government, travel, country life, Persian men, Persian women and the city of Mashdad." (GHANI, p. 362.) The author's brother was the diplomat and scholar Brigadier-General Sir Percy M. Sykes who also wrote extensively on Persia.
