Schoolprize binding, contemporary marbled calf, spine with 5 raised band gilt, gilt supralibros Prix du Lycée de Montpellier, edges painted red, marbled endpapers (binding rubbed and slightly scratched, gold faded, corner scuffed, erased stamp bottom of the title, fade number top of the title, plates somewhat stained, minor toning of paper). The fifth edition of the renowned mathematical textbook authored by French mathematician and philosopher Dominique-François Rivard (1697-1778). Originally published in 1740, this edition comprises two parts with separate pagination: "Arithmetic" (Traité d'arithmétique) and "Geometry" (Abregé des élemens de géométrie).
