About This Item

La Haye: Pierre Paupie, 1741. Nouvelle édition, augmentée de LXXX nouvelles lettres..... Good. Six volumes 12mo (16 cm). Title pages in red and black. Vignettes on title pages. Frontispiece portrait and full-page engraved allegory of Truth lifting the veil that conceals the Afterlife. Bound in full mottled calf, spines in six compartments decorated with gilt. Marbled edges and endleaves. Title labels no longer present. Spine ends worn and joints tender. Corners reinforced. Text clean, sound, and entire. Reference: Caillet, 1605.

Second, much enlarged edition of this anti-clerical, anti-religious epistolary fiction (non-narrative novel?) that was slapped onto the Index within a year of publication. Particularly venomous toward the Jesuit order.

About Rodger Friedman Rare Book Studio

Rodger Friedman Rare Book Studio owes its name and its inspiration to the traditional Italian studio bibliografico. These small antiquarian bookshops, typically run by individuals who combine deep scholarship with a love of the printed object, remind us that underlying the words "study" and "studio" is the Latin term for zeal and devotion, studium. Since 1993, my goal has been to match discerning collectors with extraordinary books and manuscripts.
