Octavo in red cloth spine and handsomely mottled cloth boards; 334 pages; 19 cm. Author inscription to one "W R L" , and dated in year of publication. Biographical sketches of 27 persons, including George Moore, Lady Astor, Noel Coward, Aldous Huxley, Anita Loos, Alfred Hitchcock, Elinor Glyn, Dame Laura Knight, A A Milne, George Bernard Shaw, and many others; and organized around the metaphor of a circus and its animals. ¶ "Francis Martin Sewell Stokes (1902-1979) was an English novelist, biographer, playwright, screenwriter, broadcaster and prison visitor.
