Small tear on front corner of the plain paper dust jacket, else fine. Quarter cloth with decorated brown paper boards. Paper spine label. Illustrated. Illustrations photographed direct from the original lithographs and reproduced from engravings made by the printer. 84 color plates were printed by Robert Collins Lithography from laser-scanned separations. Designed and printed by Jonathan Clark at The Artichoke Press ; W. Michael Mathes sought to present not only a history of lithography but also of its relationship to typography. He included an exhaustive number of lithography examples both in the text and as a checklist ; 4to .
