Full British tan calf leather with dual spine labels in brown, slighlty raised spine bands decorated in gilt, all edges speckled red, frontis engraving in volumes I, IV, V, VI, VII and VIII, folding facimile document in volume IX, books about 8.75 inches tall. Very well kept set with only light wear to extremities, some crackles to spine labels (stabilized) and a tiny chip to one label, good hinges, firm text blocks, folding plate, frontis engravings and adjacent title pages foxed, pages clean, small name stamp to upper corner inside each cover, no other names or markings.. Hard Cover. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Leather worn along the extremities esp at the spine. Volume I & 16 have some chipping at the joints and the crown of the spine lightly chipped. No ownership marks present. Foxing present. Text is free of marks, binding tight and solid. Bacon is credited as founder of systematic scientific thinking for the English speaking world and, with Descartes in France, stands as one of the most important scientific thinkers before Newton. "His pronouncement 'I have taken all knowledge to be my province' is the motto of his work....
