Minor insect damage to the dust jacket and the boards. Rubbing to the tips and edges of the boards. Vintage Vroman’s bookstore sticker label on the rear pastedown. Otherwise the interior is unmarked. The binding is solid.

A very good copy with small book plate to front free endpaper, mild offsetting to endpapers, mild rubbing and bumping to corners and spine ends, in the dust jacket with mild toning, shall chips and rubbing to spine and spine ends, closed tears to edges with some mild creasing. Overall a very nice copy.

In a good-plus illustrated dust-jacket that lightly edgeworn, with moderate soiling overall, some dampstaining, and loss at heel and crown.

Book This is a set, purchased from the Estate of Garth Williams, that has an early printing of the book and Williams' paste-up dummy of the book. The dummy has a copy of the printed book's dust jacket and under that is a black and white copy of the jacket with the title and author/illustrator information pasted on. The dummy has a cover of brown cloth glued onto heavy stock. The pages are laid in. They are two facing page spreads glued together on the back sides. Williams' art is reproduced in black and white with White-Out used to mask extraneous lines, especially around the text blocks. Pages 23-24 and 25-26 from the book are out of order (reversed) in the dummy. The final page spread (the bears at home in bed by the fire) is missing. Size: Folio (13-23"). 28 pages. Item Type: Book.
