Glenny among them-met at the Corner House, Johannes burg on July 20, 1895 to discuss ways and means of mining the gold they believed would be found in the reefs among the foothills of the Drakensberg at Pilgrim's Rest and Sabie. Six months later three of them were in jail in Pretoria awaiting trial for their part in the Jameson Raid. Later one of them, Lionel Phillips, was under sentence of death. But the exciting story of the "ash-blonde" gold of Pilgrim's Rest begins much earlier than this.
