Spine is torn at top down both sides, with back side being torn half way. Spine is also torn on both sides at bottom. Corners of covers are bumped, worn, and starting to split. Covers are heavily scuffed. Front endpaper has writing from a school. Binding is split before title page and is only attached at bottom quarter of back cover. Some pages have age spots, foxing or some tanning.; First Edition, The 1877 Railway Strike; 7.75" x 5.25" x 1.25"; 480 pages .

Brown cloth hardcover with black borders, title and illustration on the front cover. Title on the spine. Blind stamped rear cover. Corners are bumped and worn. Light shelf and edge wear to the cloth. Label removed from the front paste down. Light soiling to the front end papers and title page. Frontispiece sketch was partially stuck to the title page at some point resulting in minor loss of the illustration.

Small library label on the spine, library stamp on the corner of the title page, a very good copy. Howes D5. Howes also lists a St. Louis issue with identical collation, but suggests no priority. The first and still the standard account of the great Railway Strike of 1877, generally considered the first full-scale national strike in the United States.

Overall in FAIR condition only.. First Edition. Full Cloth. Fair. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Hardcover.
