Lathrop (1891-1980) was a noted and prolific illustrator of children’s books, who is perhaps best remembered for illustrating the Newbery Award-winning, Hitty, Her First Hundred Years, the fictional story of a doll by Rachel Field. She won the very first Caldecott Medal in 1938 for her book, Animals of the Bible.
