Hamburg: Polydor International GmbH, 1974. Hardcover. Very Good. Heavy Book. 12.4 X 12.4" tall; 276 p. Red leatherette with gilt titles on spine and cover and inset with pictorial of Beethoven in marble. Profusely illustrated in color and black & white, including fullpage color portraits. Translated from the German by the editorial department of the Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft. Beethoven's compostions: Symphonies, Concertos, String Trios ... and ends with Beethoven's 'Character and Way of Life'. Book is in very good condition for its age. There is a slight bow to the book and signs of foxing between front and back end pages and their facing pages. The rest of the pages are clean and bright and the binding is tight. There is a faint old book smell. No dust jacket. The picture is a scan of the actual book (as much as would fit on the scanner). NOTE: this book is 5 lbs and would require additional shipping. It cannot be shipped internationally except at exorbitant rate.

This is a handsome, oversized (12 3/4" x 12 1/2", will require additional postage) volume is the size of a 33 1/3 LP for a reason--it originally accompanied the issuing of a complete LP set of the Beethoven nine symphonies by Deutsche Grammophon. In its 276 pages are contained a detailed biography of the master composer, detailed analyses of his works, approximately 200 illustrations (roughly 2/3 of which are in color, and many of which are full-page).
