Description:
Los Angeles: Twentieth Century-Fox, 1957. Collection of four British front-of-house cards from the 1957 film. The story of a motley assortment of expatriates, who travel to Pamplona to attend the running of the bulls, it reflected Hemingway's own abiding fascination with bullfighting. Featuring a standout performance by Errol Flynn as the hedonistic, hard-drinking, burned-out Mike Campbell...in other words, himself. Though considered one of the most honest "big" film adaptations of its era, due mainly to the screenplay by novelist and Hemingway acolyte Peter Viertel, the author is said to have walked out only 25 minutes into the premier. Zanuck's first independent production after his departure from Fox. The snipe on this photograph's verso suggests that Zanuck also had a hand in directing certain Parisian scenes, as is depicted here. Shot on location in France, Mexico, and Spain. 8 x 10 inches. Near Fine.

Description:
Los Angeles: Twentieth Century-Fox, 1957. Vintage borderless reference photograph of producer Darryl F. Zanuck with a camera crew on the set of the 1957 film. Printed mimeo snipe affixed to the verso. A fairly faithful adaptation of Ernest Hemingway's 1926 novel, about a group of British and American expatriates in Paris who travel to Pamplona to watch the running of the bulls. Featuring a career revitalizing performance from Errol Flynn, as a hedonistic, hard living drunk, which would lead to him being cast as an alcoholic in several more films-roles he had a literal lifetime of experience preparing for. Set in Spain and France, shot on location in Spain, France, and Mexico, the latter much to the consternation of Hemingway who said "You're meant to be in Spain and all you see walking around are nothing but Mexicans... It looked pretty silly" and reportedly walked out after 25 minutes. 9.5 x 7 inches. Near Fine.
