Description:
Publisher: New York William Morrow & Company 1929; Hardback. Third printing. Dark blue boards, no dust jacket, 246 pages. Scarce children's fantasy story. This is also a publishing oddity, as five pages have no printing on them when meant to. It gives the book a bit of an alleghorical appeal, as the blank pages represent an unwritten "enchanted road." Has a lovely color frontspiece of young boy dreaming an enchanted road full of giraffes and other animals coming down from the sky. Book is overall in about good condition. Text block would grade good and covers would grade about good. One page has a small repaired tear towards spine and a small drop stain mirrored on same facing pages. Tiny repaired tear on spine. Covers are worn and some cardboard exposed at edges, but not banged up. No owner's writing on endpapers. No dust jacket.. Good.

Description:
MP3 Audio CD. Wonderwings and other Fairy Stories Wonderwings Poppypink sat up in bed and yawned. "Why is everybody getting up so early?" she asked. "Is it a holiday?" The older fairies were dressing themselves and brushing their long fine hair. "Wonderwings is coming to see us," they said. "Jump up, little Poppypink." "Who is Wonderwings?" she asked. "You will see when you are dressed. Hurry, or you will miss her." "Oh dear! I am so sleepy," said Poppypink, and she yawned again. "I don't care about Wonderwings." She snuggled down into the bedclothes again, and went to sleep. Presently she was awakened by the sound of the sweetest singing she had ever heard, and a flash of brilliant colour went past her window pane of crystal set in pearl. "That must be Wonderwings," she said. "Oh, I must see her. I hope I am not too late." She sprang from bed and dressed so hurriedly that I am afraid her hair… Read More

Description:
MP3 Audio CD. The Sun's Babies THE SNOWDROP BABY The Snowdrop Baby lay in her little cradle under the ground. Do you know how white and smooth the Snowdrop cradle is, and how snugly the silky sheets are tucked round the baby? Above the ground it was summer. The birds sang, the bees hummed, the roses and pinks talked to one another across the beds. "What a number of flowers are out this year!" they said. "The garden is full of blossom." Do you know that the flowers talk? The Snowdrop Baby listened to it all. "I am not needed yet," she said. She turned over and went to sleep. Summer passed, and autumn came. Asters and dahlias talked to one another now, and tiger lilies bloomed in the garden. The Snowdrop Baby woke and listened. "My time is not yet come," she said. She slept again. Winter came. Frost following frost killed all the flowers; storm after storm blew the dead leaves away, leaving the brown stalks bare. Snow fell, and melted. A tiny drop crept… Read More

Description:
MP3 Audio CD. Maoriland Fairy Tales Most of the tales have some basis in history. It is an oral language so all histories have to be remembered and retold. To help with this memory retelling the carvings all have relative information and prompts, stories of Atua (sort of gods) and other people (pakeha) that have been encountered are all blended into the stories. One of the amazing things to listen to is a person's whakapapa (family line). My son's father can tell his whakapapa right back to first landing in the canoe Aotea. It takes hours with the stories of battles, moving and resettling and then the invasion of British soldiers and settlers. Those pale fairies in one of the recent stories would most probably have been Malaysian or Portugese fishermen/explorers. The Tikanga (way to behave/live) is quite strict and the stories support keeping people in line. This strictness is a kind of policing I think because it doesn't matter what time in history or what country, human nature doesn't change. There… Read More
