Simla, India: Government Monotype Press, 1908. Book. Good. Hardcover. Half-leather and dark green cloth. Raised bands on the spine with red leather labels and gilt lettering. The lower label stamped "For Official Use Only." No. 1387 stamped in gilt on the upper leather corner of the front cover. Rubbing wear to the leather, slight evidence of powder residue (red rot) from the some parts of the leather, and two of the spine labels show slight peeling from the spine. The cloth has some insect damage along the top edge of the rear cover and the fore-edges. The interior has foxing on the endpapers, affecting the bookplate on the front endpaper, and on several adjacent pages. The upper corners of about the first hundred pages are creased or bent from having been bumped. 461 pages with six fold-out sketches/maps tipped in and one large fold-out general map (rear pocket) illustrating this volume. Pp. 461, 6 folding maps tipped in, appendices, large folding map in rear pocket, as called for in the index, quarto format in three-quarters calf binding, dark green linen boards, gilt spine titles on 2 leather labels, raised bands. A firmly bound copy, all original with no repairs. The front tips are worn, but not too bad. The green cloth a is a bit stained at the rear. The backstrip is in an excellent state. Internally there are no tears, no owner's names or markings to the text. The map is Nearly Fine with virtually no wear. A very presentable copy of this rare item. Pp. xix, 591, 8 illustrations/views/maps, appendices, two folded maps in pockets, as called for in the index, quarto format in three-quarters calf binding, with dark green linen boards, gilt spine title on leather label, raised bands. A firmly bound copy, all original with no repairs. The front tips are worn, but not bad. The green cloth a is a bit rubbed. The backstrip is starting to split a bit on one side, about 3", but not at risk of coming loose. There is only one spine label present; we are not certain if there were more originally. Internally there are no tears, no owner's names or markings to the text. The maps are Very Good with light wear. A very presentable copy of this rare item. We have 3 other volumes from this series.
