Included shortly thereafter in his COLLECTED POEMS: 1917-1952 which won the Pulitzer Prize (his second) and the National Book Award for poetry in 1953. Stapled wrappers in a plain green dust jacket with flaps. The flaps show residue from glue, one short mark on the front cover, otherwise about Fine. The preface includes a brief very political statement referring indirectly (but at the time quite clearly) to Joe McCarthy: "Americans as well as Trojans can make a monster for a god

Matchett was at the time a teaching assistant in MacLeish's famed poetry class. Limited edition, and the first publication of this play. Moderate soiling to the wraps, else a nice clean copy (jacket is not torn or chipped).

THE TROJAN HORSE was first presented by the BBC and was later included in MacLeish's COLLECTED POEMS: 1917-1952 (for which he won the National Book Award for poetry in 1953). Glue residue to verso of dust jacket flaps and inside of covers (apparently typical) and to top edge of frontis picture and corresponding area of title page, otherwise bright and fine stapled paperwraps and very slightly soiled dust jacket.

SIGNED by the poet on the title page. In the uncommon original printed envelope and housed in a specially made green cloth clamshell box with a gilt-lettered black morocco spine label. Archibald MacLeish was not only a well-known poet but also served as Librarian of Congress, appointed by Franklin Roosevelt, a position he used to reorganize and promote the institution. In addition to winning three Pulitzer Prizes, MacLeish was commissioned by the NEW YORK TIMES to write a poem to celebrate the Apollo 11 moon landing, which he entitled "Voyage to the Moon" and which appeared on the front page of the 21 July 1969 edition of the paper.

Modest bumping at the corners, a bit of faint staining, tiny pinholes at top and bottom edges, very good or better. With a pencil sketch of a mandolin on the unprinted verso in an unknown hand. A handsome broadside from Cambridge Massachusetts' legendary Poets' Theatre, advertising a 1953 showing of two one-act plays by MacLeish at Harvard's Agassiz theatre.
