In 1943 Malcolm Saville's just-published "Mystery at Witchend" was serialised for BBC's Children's Hour in four parts, adapted by Barbara Sleigh (who went on to write the popular "Carbonel" series). Although highly successful, Saville's serial was never repeated. There is no evidence that a recording was made, but if so, it has long since disappeared. Publisher's beige cloth with gilt lettering to the front board and spine and with the Lone Pine emblem to the bottom right hand corner of the front board. Map end-papers. A scratch to the front board and a couple of minor corner bumps otherwise a VG+ copy. In the rare D/W priced 7/6 net to the inside flap (as called for). The D/W has a little very minor wear at the spine tips and a touch of creasing to the front cover. A nice copy. Shows well. Illustrations by Bertram Prance. Photographs/scans available upon request.

Previous owner has penned front paste down and FEP. Notable shelf and handling wear to DJ, including tanning, wear and creasing to edges, corners and folds. Several open and closed tears are present, two repaired with brown tape on the inside. Fold edges, and spine head and foot are chipped. Clean red boards with black lettering to the front board and spine, this is cocked with minor creasing to head and foot. Corners are bumped, notably the top leading edge corners, causing minor creasing to several pages. F&R pastedowns and endpapers feature a map-style illustration. Page block tanned. The book is a VG+ nice clean copy with light foxing to the top edge which also has a couple of minor ink splodges. The contents are fresh and clean. The D/W is about VG and is torn, worn, rubbed and lightly chipped but basically 95% intact. A very, very scarce first edition in D/W, only the second copy we have encountered
