An early, reset edition of this classic of espionage, issued when Maugham's career's took off after the publication of OF HUMAN BONDAGE, in a beautifully illustrated jacket showing the Egyptian Sphinx and Maugham's phot on the back panel. Book is fine and unmarked. Jacket is bright, has mild edgewear to the flap edges, and a 1/2"" V chip to bottom edge and tip of spine not affecting text or art. Still an attractive copy protected by an archival Mylar jacket cover.
