Description:
New York and London: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1922. Frederick Law Olmsted, Senior, was one of America's foremost artists and a founder of the profession of landscape architecture in the U.S. This, the first volume of his papers, was published on the centennial of his birth and contains a delightful collection of autobiographical passages relating to his boyhood and travels in rural England and the Southern States. From this account we get an unusually vivid picture of New England village life in the first half of the nineteenth century. Included in the volume is a short paper on American Landscape Gardening in 1857.
