Quarto, 11 1/4" tall, blind-stamped red cloth with gilt, includes pages 37 to 64 present, plus 13 aqua tint illustrations. A good copy only, overall, with primary defects being: the cloth back strip over the spine missing; front hinge broken and cover loose; there is no title page (if one were issued for each volume), several pages at the rear loose, text pages lightly yellowed with minor marginal foxing for the most part, prints are are mostly clean, and the images are all bright, but the paper of four of the prints has darkened with foxing. Each volume contains colour woodblock illustrations by Alexander Francis Lydon on art paper with accompanying protective pages bound into book. Cloth bound boards with gold and black impressing on the front, gold impressing on spine, blind impressing on back board. All edges gilt. Vol. I rebacked with original spine overlaid. Vol. I also contains a letter signed by C. P. Christie, Esq., pasted to front free endpaper. Some wear to spine ends and corners as well as small holes in hinges. Some foxing. Hinges cracking internally, repaired in vol. I only. This four-volume collectors set is the last of a number of collaborations by Irish Naturalist and clergyman Rev. Bound in 3/4 leather and marbled paper, raised bands on gilt decorated spines, top edges gilt, with marbled endpapers. Each volumes contains 40 colour illustrations produced by Benjamin Fawcett and Alexander Francis Lydon, depicting Country Homes of the Nobility, Castles, Lodges, Historic Buildings and more, being complete with 240 illustrations, as called for. Each frontispiece has a protective tissue guard intact, with each volume containing a decorative title page, showing a colour vignette. Volume III - back cover detached, stains to front cover, with an edge damp mark throughout, not affecting the text, nor illustrations. Volume VI shows stains to front cover. Set lacks 3 spine labels, with a few chips to those intact, covers show light edge wear, hinges becoming dry, with binding and hinges tight.

Leeds: D. Banks Red leather with gilt titles and decs, AEG. Spines and boards edges tanned, rubbed, and chipped with some splitting at spine ends. Occasional foxing, mainly to prelims or plates. Some boards have dampspotting. Vol 1 has cracked front gutter. Vol 3 has loose tissue guard to frontis. vol 6 has split joints and hinges and is slightly shaken. The plates were drawn by Alexander Francis Lydon & printed from coloured woodblocks by the Baxter process by Benjamin Fawcett of Driffield, Yorkshire. The plates are noted for their precise printing and rich colouring and Fawcett printed each plate in an average of eight colours.
