Minor Scattered staining. A view of Mexico (and America) from a British traveler during the time of the Mexican-American War. Ruxton (1821-1848) was a British soldier, explorer, and travel writer. In 1846, he went to Mexico to observe the Mexican War, then he traveled north through Texas to Santa Fe, and Colorado. Quite an interesting account of a fellow of the Royal Geographic Society. Disliking army life, he sold his commission and "spent the winter of 1843-4 in the wilds of Ontario and northern New York with an Indian friend. He then returned to England, and, after a short expedition to the deserts of North Africa and another to South Africa, he came back to America to travel through Mexico to the Rocky Mountains, and the Great Plains"-Wagner-Camp. Ruxton was acting as both a commercial attache for the British and a commercial agent for the Mexican government.
