Inscribed by Steichen to Marty Forscher, who ran a renowned NYC camera repair shop and was repairman to a Navy photographic unit run by Steichen during World War II. Photocopy of Forscher's 2009 NY Times obituary laid in. Steichen had a long career in photography, as an art photographer, photojournalist, and curator. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .

Lacking slipcase. Binding with some wear along edges, some fraying at bottom corner at foredge, lesser at top and tail of spine. Horizontal tear through leaf with pages 23 and 24, no loss of text. Block with some age-toning, not affecting images. Binding in overall good, images in near fine condition.

A clean and tight near fine copy in cloth boards and with some very faint scattered foxing to the page edges in an about very good example of the scarce tissue jacket that is also foxed and with a number of chips and tears. Lacking the very scarce slipcase. Signed by both Steichen and Sandburg on the limitation page. A very nice copy of this classic.
