(London: Simms and M'Intyre: 1847) Antique half-leather binding, lettered and decorated in gilt on the spine (that is, hard covers) pp. viii, 280 and 3-334 (Second Series, with a second title-page, as before but '1848'). Bound in also are parts of a novel by Madame Charles Reybaud. Both Series probably came out in wrappers or plain boards and were later bound together by an owner; later again, the marbled paper designed to complement the half-leather binding was removed exposing the underlying paper on each board, which advertises titles in the Parlour Library series (some by Grattan); this underlying paper was used by the binder upside down to the book itself; some rubbing and scuffing to the leather, and a piece about 100 mm long and about 25 mm at its widest scuffed from the advertisement on the…
