Tan cloth boards with stamped gold decoration is very worn, the edges are bare, corners quite worn, chips in the decoration, soiling, spine finish is crackling, edges and head/tail are worn. Illustrated with color lithograph of a "modern dining room" as frontispiece and many B&W in-text drawings. Several newspaperclippings and hand-written notes are laid in. . Spine and boards worn and soiled, edges, head and tail worn; hinges splitting but attached, some fairly light soiling to pages, pages supple, former owner's name in pencil on first blank preliminary page, ffep missing, else near fine. GOOD. . B&W Illustrations. 4to 11" - 13" tall .

Also published, starting in 1891, as the Imperial Cook Book, and in 1894 as the Star Cook Book, issued by the Lone Star Pub. Co. of Texas. Internally browned and brittle throughout, which is sadly par for the course for this work under all of its titles. Front free endpaper present but loose. In black-decorated and titled gray oil cloth with some soiling and rubbing. Previous owner's name in ink to front preliminary. A number of clipped articles and recipes are pasted-in to the front and rear matter, some rather interesting, especially a lengthy illustrated article on blindness in babies. Good only. Has the frontis color lithograph of "Modern Dining Room" it has a short tear on it about an icnh and a halfand is lightly soiled and used looking. The white outer hardback cover is soiled and very used looking. The spine has a bump the vertical length at the middle outside which corresponds to the interior cracking that has occured. One signature slightly sprung with tissue repair to leaf that has its margins trimmed as well - and re-inserted. Light crack at the same spot that goes the lenght of the interior joint. 527 pages - complete. The inside front and back joints were repaired some time ago with cloth re-enforcing tape the whole length of each joint. The pages are still flexible and not brittle. One can still flip through the pages. Very scarce in any condition. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" Tall . Fair. White Embossed Hardback. Original 1891 First Edition.. 1891.

In black-decorated and titled gray oil cloth darkened from smoke or soot, and with the spine exhibiting that reptile skin pattern that sometimes afflicts oilcloth. Still, better than just good.
