To advance awareness of Amos Tuck and his significant role in the abolition of slavery, the founding of the Republican Party . and the election of Abraham Lincoln to the American Presidency. Large cassette containing book and VHS tape. Includes bibliography. When elections were held in the spring of 1855, several thousand Missouri men, called "border ruffians" by their enemies, illegally voted and insured that a pro-slavery legislature was elected. Anti-slavery settlers cried foul and refused to join the new government. INstead they set up their own state government, operating under an anti-slavery constitution. Frankli n PIerce denounced the free soil settlers as traitors, and bloodshed followed. .
