Boards decorated with blind tooling at the corners and a gilt print medallion in the centre showing a dancing woman in front of an audience. Gilt print title on spine. All edges gilt. Binding loose at the lower joint travel

Modern full calf, gilt-stamped lettering and ornament in spine compartments, a. e. g.; 4to (237 x 307 mm); pp. [i]-x, [11]-94, [2], plus additional engraved title-p. (vignette), frontis., and 35 plates; collates complete. Rear board a bit scuffed. Some foxing and off-setting throughout, most pronounced on prelims and terminals, but otherwise very light.

Turner, Clarkson Stanfield and others), with original tissue guards; bound without the publisher's ads and list of subscribers in contemporary half red calf over red cloth-covered boards, smooth gilt-decorated spine, black morocco label on volume I, that on volume II perished; some scuffing, but generally a very good, sound copy, occasional spotting on the plate margins but the images themselves are clean. White was a British officer serving in India and his views of the Himalayas, drawn by him on the spot, are the earliest taken of the Himalayas by a European. He explored the Mussoore, Simla, sources of the Jumna and Ganges in 1829-32. Includes two views of the Snowy Range of the Himalayas, showing distant views of Everest, and a view of a suttee. Publisher's embossed cloth covered boards with elaborate gilt stamped title device on each upper board, faded at periphery (neatly rebacked in maroon Morocco, inner hinges re-enforced), bumped at corners. Armorial bookplate of Frederic Straker on front pastedown of Volume II. Sound and complete, an attractive work. 38 x 27cm. 30 black and white views drawn from nature by G.F. White of the 31st Regiment. Artists include J.M.W. Turner (7 plates) and T. Allom (5 plates). Many engravers including W. & E. Finden and J. Tingle. .
