All full-page plates listed in the contents are present, as is every woodcut, which are listed separately.
Modest wear, soiling, spotting & discoloration to the covers and spine.
Most of the wear (rubbing, bumping) is on the edges and corners of the covers and spine. Note photos.
The binding remains fully intact and is holding firm, although, like any antigue folio, it should be handled with care and not opened any wider than is necessary to peruse the contents.
There is no writing in the book, and almost no foxing. There are a very few, seemingly random pages that have small, relatively insignificant spots of uncertain origin, and there are some tiny nicks or chips to some (relatively few) page edges. Top edge gilt. Professionally rebacked with reinforcement at the inner hinges. A narrative of the author's travels in Borneo, Java, Palawan and Balabac Islands, especially of his three efforts (the last one successful) to ascend Mt. Kina Balu. The greater part of the work comprises detailed observations on the natural history, especially ornithology, of the regions visited. The lower cover has been affected by damp. Cloth rubbed at one corner and slightly bubbled at spine. Prelims lightly spotted. The contents and plates are in excellent state. Very good. Very scarce.
