Pages are heavily tanned and thumbed at the edges. Binding has remained firm. Heavy foxing throughout Corners are dogeared in places. Water marks to page edges and corners. Boards have been heavily rub worn with noticeable shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are bumped and a noticeably frayed and spine ends are crushed, with some small splits and chips. Tanning to spine and edges. Surface tears to leather. Splitting to spine joints and ends.

Pages are moderately tanned, but text remains clear. Binding is firm. Rough-cut edges. Boards and spine have minimal shelf-wear. Spine is slightly sunned, with small white marks.

More prominent to text block edges, pastedowns and free endpapers. Pen inscription to front pastedown and free endpaper. Moderate cracking to front hinge, exposing netting, but pages remain attached. Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with mild tanning and scuffing overall. Prominent splitting to joints. Spine has similar rubbing and tanning with visible splitting and crushing to ends. Lettering remains bright and clear.

Pages with some foxing and tanning, particularly to endpapers and textblock edges. A previous owner's name to front free endpaper and pastedown. Boards have heavy wear with bumped and abraded corners. Spine ends similarly worn and spine itself strongly scuffed. Gilt dulled. Board surfaces scratched and rubbed.

Fair only with owner stamp on the title page, three pages with some scribbling not affecting the text, missing the frontispiece, foxing throughout, and the leather of the spine has completely perished, though the binding remains tight and sound, and the hinges have been repaired.

Spine leather is chipped; crown is lacking approx.1/8". Gilt title still bright. Corners are worn. Original (fragile) ribbon marker still in place. Rear hinge is cracked but holding. A dated (1822) short inscription on blank front end-paper, in copperplate script; a name at top edge of title page, also in copperplate (a delicate female hand). Scattered foxing throughout, more so to title page and end-papers. Still a wonderful copy. 231 pages. Protected in a mylar slip.
